it’s time to quit smoking. According to the Surgeon General of the United States, “nicotine [is] as addictive as heroin and cocaine” . Each year in the United States, cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 people to die, constituting nearly one in every five deaths. Smoking causes more deaths each year than the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), alcohol and Illegal drug use, motor vehicle injuries and firearm-related incidents combined.
Many people minimize the damage cigarette smoking does to individuals and society. While the average American lives to age 79, the average American smoker dies at age 69. The good news is people reduce their chances of dying of smoking-related illnesses by quitting smoking at any age! SOBA New Jersey offers a comprehensive smoking cessation program to give you your best chance of living longer, feeling better and being healthier the rest of your life.

To start the program you’ll meet with a licensed clinician who has completed training as a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS). The CTTS works with smokers to develop a treatment plan that offers the best path to quit smoking. If a treatment plan includes medications, you’ll meet with our staff psychiatrist to determine any needed alterations.
Finally, you’ll attend weekly support groups with others who also quit smoking. In these groups people share their experiences and advice. These groups reinforce the strength of the treatment plan and offer new strategies to help with quitting.
Researchers have found that people who use medication and counseling are four times as likely to quit smoking as people who quit “cold turkey”.
Give yourself the best chance possible to live a healthier life.
We welcome e-cigarette users into our program. While e-cigarettes are too new to have any clinical research studying the long-term effects of “vaping”, many CTTSs believe vaping may not be as harmful as smoking but is also not harmless. Many health care professionals have concluded the current best-practice treatment for nicotine dependence for e-cigarette users is the same as treatment for cigarette smokers.
Quit Smoking. Live Healthy.
